'Friends of Spreading Health' is a small Bournemouth based group, set up by Glynis and friends, to raise funds. We hope by having a few small activities, to interest new people in rural healthcare in Africa and to raise some funds and we have gained one or two regular standing orders from these activities. Many, many thanks to all those group members who have helped with these events, often it's the first time any of us have done this sort of thing!'
Thanks to Debbie and Steve Thomas who opened their house for a coffe morning in Wimborne, which reaised a whopping £750!! It also meant that Spreading Health became known to a wider audience.
Thanks to the loyalty and hard work of our friends we managed to raise the sponsorship of a nurse at the Christmas Fair in 2015.
Thanks once again to Eva and David Brewer who support us regularly and this time held a pot luck coffee morning. Everyone made at least a £5.00 donation and brought along a cake or contribution. It was great fun, high in decibels and calorie intake and we made a stunning £200!
In the summer young Paul Turner had a 'significant' birthday and instead of presents he very kindly asked for donations to Spreading Health! A great way to raise awareness and we benefitted by over £400! It seems like a good way of raising funds if anyone else feels this might be a way of contributing.
The DADA (doctors & dentists!) art group had a show at Upton House and split proceeds from sales of paintings between Cherry Tree Nursery, plant based therapy for people with mental health issues and once again with Spreading Health. Many thanks to David Dorell, Christian Wulff, Steve Dorman, Stephen Rogers, Simon Hill, David Rogers and Richard Day.
We've just had our 2016 Christmas Fair and thanks to Dunja Wood for having the vision for it and being our 'artistic director'! But thanks are also due to those whose hard work and contributions in so many different ways made it a success. So thanks so much to Kirsten, Sue H, Sue Br, Fay, Mai, Ilse, Sue Ba, Beverly, Sue O, Eva, Dorika, Mary, Jenny, Maria, Bryn and all those others who helped on the day too, inlcuding Steve, Frank, and Penny. We made just over £200 and there may be a bit more to come, so once again we've covered the 3 year sponsorship of a nurse student!!
Many thanks to Fay Bateson, who organised it, 'Belinda's'of Ringwood, a bakery, very kindly made and raffled two beautiful chocolate eggs in aid of Spreading Health!
One was raffled in 'Belinda's', but here is Christian, a seasoned supporter of Spreading Health and grand daughter, who won the Bournemouth egg! If the egg is anything to go by then it's worth visiting the shop in Ringwood!
Openworks - a generous grant!
Thanks to Peter Betteridge, who's associated with the organisation, in January we secured a grant from Openworks 'Openworks' for £10,000!
This will go towards training more nurses, ensuring everyone has a good text book to refer to when they've completed the course and some minor equipment for each nurse on qualification.
Thank you to the Bournemouth and Poole DADA art group who raised £1000 for SH
